As Relationship Manager, Sergio is responsible for managing CRS West’s relationships with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, and is the primary contact for the dioceses of San Bernardino and Fresno (all in California). Sergio takes the lead in regional outreach efforts for Youth and Young Adult Ministry, as well as Media and Communications. He also assists with Advocacy efforts in the West Region.
His role is to:
- Foster greater awareness of all people as members of one human family, and help people in the United States understand that through faith and action, they can contribute to the greater good of the world community.
- Support diocesan leaders with training, education, speaker tours, facilitating immersion education trips and other resources to build global solidarity through the work of CRS.
- Build diocesan and university capacities to promote global solidarity through forming Global Solidarity Teams and training CRS Ambassadors.
- Offer classes, workshops and retreats on themes in social justice, scripture and spirituality to contribute to religious education programs in each diocese for both the English-speaking and Spanish-speaking Catholic communities.
Sergio is a former youth minister of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. A native of Southern California, Sergio has held lay ministry positions in several culturally diverse parishes in the Diocese of Orange and Archdiocese of Los Angeles. He holds a master’s degree in religious studies from Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles, and is pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Gonzaga University. During his time as an intern for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, Sergio worked in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles’ Office of Justice and Peace to lift up the work of grassroots communities organizing for justice. A native Spanish speaker, Sergio is a bilingual presenter, and specializes in the areas of youth ministry, Catholic social teaching, Hispanic outreach, liturgy, social media, faith formation, volunteer management and leadership development.
