Known as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda is home to beautiful rivers, lakes and mountains. Despite its natural splendor and growing economy, this nation faces serious challenges. Although most of the country is relatively stable, northern Uganda has been plagued by war for over 20 years. Progress is being made toward peace, but more than 500,000 people remain displaced due to the violence. Working through local partners including the Ugandan Catholic Church, Catholic Relief Services helps Ugandans respond to emergencies and address the root causes of poverty and injustice.

More than 100 staff members work out of CRS' main office in Kampala and two suboffices, one in Fort Portal in the west and the other in Gulu in the north. Current program areas include HIV and AIDS, agriculture, microfinance, water and sanitation, partnership and global solidarity, and emergency preparedness and recovery.
