About CRS Internships

CRS Internship Overview
A CRS internship offers students and recent graduates the chance to gain professional experience in international development with a leading faith-based nonprofit. Interns learn best practices in international relief and development, receive mentoring, and network within the organization. Supervisors provide regular guidance to enhance the internship experience.
Eligibility: Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program or have graduated within the past year.
CRS Internship Program Structure
Paid and Unpaid Internships: CRS offers both paid and unpaid domestic internships, and unpaid international internships during the academic year. Paid internships are posted on the CRS Careers site and offer an hourly rate based on Maryland’s minimum wage. Paid interns must commit to at least 10 weeks, working 15 to 22 hours per week. Unpaid internships, arranged in the prior semester, can last up to 6 months.
Summer Hires: Summer hires work full-time (35 hours per week) from June to August and receive a competitive hourly wage.
Application: Paid internships are competitive and posted on the CRS Careers page. Apply early. Unpaid internships are limited and arranged through CRS staff or affiliated universities.
Intern Qualifications: Strong organizational skills, teamwork, proactive attitude, and proficiency in MS Office are desirable.
Part-time or Full-time: Internships can be part-time (15-20 hours/week) or full-time (35 hours/week) based on CRS needs.
Location: Internships are available at CRS headquarters in Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and regional offices in California, Texas, Illinois, Georgia, and Pennsylvania. Overseas internships are available for graduate students and are unpaid.
Overseas Internships: Limited to graduate students, these unpaid internships occur during the academic year. Interns or their universities cover transportation, housing, food, and insurance costs.
Housing and transportation
CRS does not provide or assist with housing or transportation for U.S.-based interns. Interns are expected to cover the following costs: relocation, transportation, housing and food. For overseas internships, applicants should expect to cover all these costs as well, though occasionally CRS may be able to help interns find housing. Academic credit CRS is happy to work with universities to satisfy academic credit requirements.
