We also look ahead, anticipating the most urgent humanitarian needs—and opportunities for global impact—in 2025. MOREEmergency Response in the Holy Land —Since the crisis in the Holy Land escalated in October 2023, families and communities have been devastated, and tens of thousands of lives have been lost. Despite the extreme challenges and danger, CRS staff continues to courageously serve hundreds of thousands of civilians amid uncertainty and insecurity. To date, we have supported 1.3 million people across the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon with nearly 200,000 individual services provided between October 2023 and September 2024.

MOREEmergency Response to Crises Across Latin America and Caribbean — In the face of widespread emergencies, humanitarian needs across Latin America and the Caribbean are more interconnected than ever. This update provides a comprehensive overview of the crises that have struck the region, from the devastating floods in Brazil to the escalating violence in Haiti to the ongoing Venezuelan refugee crisis. Each event, while unique in its impact, is a stark reminder of the shared challenges we face, and of the collective action required to address them.

MOREGlobal Food Crisis—CRS has identified 25 priority countries that are affected by high levels of acute food insecurity and malnutrition due to combinations of these drivers, which are expected to continue through 2024. Areas of urgent concern include East Africa and the Sahel, as well as Central America, Southern Africa and, more recently, Gaza.
MOREUkraine War: Two Years of Emergency Relief and Recovery—In February of 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine, causing massive destruction and loss, separating families and uprooting millions of people from their homes. Over the past two years, Catholic Relief Services has worked with Caritas and other partners across Ukraine and the region to provide a range of support to meet people’s urgent needs for food, shelter, living supplies, medical care and counseling.
