Tortillas off the Roaster

Climate-Resilient Farm and Food Systems for Central America

Higher temperatures and changing rainfall patterns pose a serious risk to agriculture in Central America. This report identifies best-bet climate adaptation and risk mitigation strategies for Central American farmers with a focus on  alternatives for the region’s predominant  maize and bean systems. It follows CRS’ 2013 Tortillas on the Roaster, which showed that a changing climate threatens the livelihoods of one million maize and bean farmers in the region and highlighted the critical role soil restoration plays in climate adaptation and resilience for smallholder farmers.
