Improving Subsidy Impact With Digital Soil Mapping

Restoring water resources and transforming livelihoods in the central american coffeelands

CRS’ engagement with the national government on the use of DSM in their farmer subsidy program revealed significant deficiencies in soil health.  Deficiencies that were not being addressed by the existing government fertilizer packages, in many cases the existing fertilizer packages exacerbated soil health deficiencies. Case studies at the municipal government level where DSM was used to adapt fertilizer packages show an average increase in yields between 46-77%, boosting food security and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers, creating a more resilient agricultural sector.
