Food and Nutrition Security Enhanced Resilience Project in Zambia

Since 2015, German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the “Transformation of Agricultural and Food Systems” (SEWOH), GIZ and its partners, including Catholic Relief Services (CRS) have implemented the Food and Nutrition Security, Enhanced Resilience (FANSER) Project in Zambia. The goal of the FANSER project is to enhance nutrition while assisting the government in lowering malnutrition and childhood stunting. In selected areas in the Eastern and Luapula provinces, the project supports the government in implementing the 1000 Most Critical Days Program (MCDP II). The overarching objective of the project is to enhance the nutritional status of those residing in food-insecure families in the designated areas, with a particular focus on women of reproductive age and children under the age of two. Various materials were developed or adapted during the implementation of the project to promote several nutrition related outcomes including increasing knowledge about good nutrition, sanitation and hygiene practices and change attitudes positively; increasing year-round availability of nutrient-rich foods and; supporting households in developing strategies to manage their household and productive resources. Some materials focus on building the capacity of staff and volunteers to implement interventions while other are aimed at regular behaviour change counselling of project participants by Volunteers.
