Since November 2020, heightened conflict in Ethiopia's northern region has escalated against a broader backdrop of political transition, severe droughts, desert locust invasions and the continued burden of the COVID‑19 pandemic. It is estimated that, throughout the country, 23.5 million people need urgent humanitarian assistance.
