BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, Dec. 23, 2024 – Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is proud to announce the release of "Through the Lens 2024," our annual photo collection featuring the most impactful photography of the year. Senior photo editor Philip Laubner and photo editor Lauren Carroll meticulously review thousands of images from around the world to select the images that best reflect the heart of the CRS mission.

The primary criteria for selecting images for publication are rooted in CRS’s commitment to upholding the dignity of the individual. With this foundation, the selection process for Through the Lens 2024 focuses solely on the quality of the image, its compositional strength and most importantly, its ability to evoke emotion. This collection also offers a unique perspective by including commentary from our photo editors, who explain the key elements that make each photograph exceptional.

Through the Lens 2024 features powerful images of CRS program participants from across the globe. Highlights include: striking depictions of resilience in the face of the ongoing drought crisis in the African Sahel; a rare glimpse of a child’s unwavering spirit amid recent airstrikes in a CRS-supported shelter in Lebanon; and the simple joy of rebuilding a life after an earthquake, as seen in the face of a Nepalese survivor who received a new home.

We are incredibly proud of and grateful for the work from our talented photographers around the world. Their images not only document the challenges faced by communities but also celebrate their strength and resilience.
