BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, Nov. 13, 2020 – Catholic Relief Services (CRS) has been named a “2020 Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, a source for user reviews of charities and nonprofits.

“We are honored to once again be named a top-rated nonprofit by GreatNonprofits,” said Laura Durington, director of Annual Giving for CRS. “Despite the challenges this year brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, CRS has been able to adapt and continue our work to improve the lives of the world’s most vulnerable.”

CRS works in over 110 countries, providing relief and development assistance for the poor and vulnerable through programming that includes emergency response, health, agriculture and peacebuilding. This year, CRS quickly adapted to the COVID-19 context by integrating mask-wearing and physical distancing into ongoing programming.

“Together with our partners, CRS has provided more than 7 million people across 37 countries with a range of COVID-19-related assistance,” Durington said. “Without the support of our donors and supporters, this life-saving work would not be possible. Our donors continue to show unprecedented generosity and dedication to our mission.”

Since the start of the pandemic, CRS has trained more than 33,000 health care workers on COVID-19 prevention and care and has provided more than 580,000 people with food and other essentials. In addition, CRS has reached upward of 6 million people with public health messaging.

“Like people around the world, we have modified how we conduct our work by being agile, flexible, innovative and responsive,” Durington said. “At the same time, we’re not losing sight on key priorities of need that existed before the pandemic. For example, in Benin, CRS supported the government utilizing smartphones and technology and registered households to ensure people could still receive lifesaving mosquito nets, reaching 13 million people.”

The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the rating and number of reviews that CRS received from volunteers, donors and aid recipients. This is the second time that CRS has received the award.

“Catholic Relief Services is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits. “Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with CRS.”

“We lived in Ghana 40 years ago and saw CRS in action, working alongside villagers to create better, sustainable farming communities,” stated one donor review. “We were impressed, and since then, we’ve seen their work in other parts of the world, always in cooperation with local groups. We are proud of having donated through payroll deduction from our first year working until our retirement.”

GreatNonprofits is a website where people share stories about their personal experiences with more than 1.6 million charities and nonprofits. The Top-Rated Awards are determined only based on reviews given by those who have direct experience with the charities – as donors, volunteers and recipients of aid.
