BALTIMORE, MD, October 5, 2017 – This holiday season, you can be sure the gifts you give are well received and well made by shopping with the first ever Ethical Trade Holiday Gift Guide produced by Catholic Relief Services (CRS).

“What makes this guide special is that you know each product was made in a responsible way,” said Simone Blanchard, Manager of the Ethical Trade Program at CRS. “All of the companies featured in the guide have been vetted to ensure fair pricing, safe working conditions and environmentally sustainable practices.”

From body lotion and chocolate to candles and ornaments, the gift guide offers a variety of choices to suit every person on your list, while ensuring producers are paid a fair price. The gift guide features the same type of quality products found on the shelves of mainstream stores.

With each purchase, customers support the people who make these products. Purchasing the Pocket Hoodie or Kylie Headband from Krochet Kids means providing job opportunities for women in Uganda and Peru. Similarly, proceeds from the Horizon Earrings or Unity Bracelet help survivors of sex trafficking in India.

CRS also receives a donation from every purchase, so your impact is doubled. That money is used to invest in programs that strengthen small farmer and artisan groups around the world, like the Holy Land Handicraft Cooperative Society, for example. Recently, CRS supported the renovation of 18 artisan studios throughout Jerusalem and the West Bank to modernize and improve working conditions by installing air ventilation systems and new wiring.

“These investments ensure that the people who carve the beautiful olive wood nativities we enjoy during the holiday season can do their work in a safe environment,” Blanchard said.

Product prices range from $7.99 to $198, with a dozen products under $25, ensuring the joy of giving for all 12 days of Christmas.

“Christmas can be stressful when we are constantly trying to find the perfect present. But when you buy from companies that you know care about the environment and the workers who make their products, you know you are doing something good,” Blanchard said.
