BALTIMORE, MARYLAND, June 13, 2022 – In response to the migration pact announced at the Summit of the Americas, “The Los Angeles Declaration on Migration and Protection,” Bill O’Keefe, executive vice president for Mission, Mobilization and Advocacy for Catholic Relief Services (CRS), issued the following statement:

“With the announcement of the ‘Los Angeles Declaration,’ the United States and other countries across our hemisphere rightly put the root causes of migration exactly where they need to be – at the center of the conversation. But while a written declaration can help garner attention on the issue, it’s not the same as action. More than anything, we need action – in the form of sustained political commitment and significantly more resources – if we’re going to help communities in places from Venezuela and Haiti to Guatemala and Honduras.”
