Yesterday, the House Agriculture Committee passed the 2018 Farm Bill out of Committee. The U.S. Catholic Church has broad interests in various provisions within the Farm Bill, including domestic nutrition programs that help poor families in the United States, support programs for rural communities, land conservation measures, and international food assistance programs that help the poor overseas survive and thrive.

In response to the contents of the Farm Bill, Catholic Relief Services joined two letters – one on behalf of U.S. Catholic organizations speaking to the whole Farm Bill, and the other on behalf of international aid agencies directed specifically to the international food assistance provisions in the bill. In both letters, Catholic Relief Services was able to express its appreciation to the House Agriculture Committee for their continued support to programs like Food for Peace, McGovern-Dole, Food for Progress, and Farmer-to-Farmer and for advancing additional reforms like removing the monetization requirement in Food for Peace and allowing Community Development Funds to be paired with Food for Peace development programming.
