The Most Reverend Vincent Coulibaly, archbishop of Conakry in Guinea, expressed his support for CRS during a time of criticism from some organizations in the United States regarding our anti-malaria program in Guinea. He gave us permission to post the text of his letter, which he addressed to Godlove Ntaw, CRS' Country Representative in Guinea.
Dear Godlove,
At the time when CRS celebrates 70 years of existence and assistance to the poor around the world, I congratulate you for the immense service you’ve given to Guinea. Your mission, inspired by the Gospel, is noble and your achievements are commendable despite enormous difficulties.
Seventy years is an age of wisdom, and this worries me because certain people who don’t know and understand the realities of field work and the challenges we’re confronted by are attempting to discredit the work of CRS.
Considering criticisms by certain people in North America about your activities in Guinea, I express my support and that of all Christians in my archdiocese for the noble work you’ve achieved in my diocese in particular and in Guinea in general. I want to particularly commend your efforts to fight malaria which is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Guinea.
The general support CRS brings to the social ministry of the Church in Guinea through its collaboration to provide capacity building with Caritas Guinea is greatly appreciated. The assistance you’ve granted instantly to Caritas Guinea during the recent crisis at Nzerekore allowed us to help those in need, and lift their spirits, contributing to the end of violence which cost hundreds of lives. This is exactly the type of support and collaboration we expect from a sister organization of the Church. We are very grateful and pray to the Lord to continue blessing the work of your hands and those who give you financial, moral, and material support.
