Children participate in a trauma healing workshop "Singing to the Lions" as part of the the Central African Republic Interfaith Peacebuilding Partnership (CIPP) project supported by USAID and partners in Mbaiki, Central African Republic on September 12, 2019. Penina Ngoessate, Animator of the workshop says, "These are children who have been traumatized. We undertake these trainings so that they can grow up without this trauma. There are children who have lost their parents, they are brought up by the extended family. They are often unhappy, stressed. We try to host them in a safe environment without stress. I ask the question “Who is your lion at home?”, these are people who they are scared of, an authority figure in their daily life. Often the goal is to show these children how these people they are scared of can become a friend. The children closed their eyes, to understand their fears. I asked them to imagine themselves in a forest with a cemetery and ghosts. I asked them to ask how they felt. They said that they were scared and I help them understand this fear and overcome it. If for example a child is trembling, they can breath deeply or tell the fear to go away. If these children are healed they will understand their fear, be healed of their trauma. They will grow up like other children. Also we help them understand violence, and that responding to violence with violence is not the right path, there other solutions to solve conflict.” The CIPP consortium is led by CRS in partnership with Aegis Trust, Islamic Relief Worldwide, World Vision International and the CAR Interreligious Platform (PCRC). CIPP capitalizes on the common vision of the PCRC's Catholic, Muslim and Protestant leaders at the local and national levels to support Central African Institutions assert their leadership role in building peace in CAR, strengthening livelihood security as a foundation for peace and increasing the impact of trauma healing and peace education programs that con
