Biography
Dan Rooney leads Catholic Relief Services' (CRS) Maharo project, a five-year $45 million USAID-funded project focused on providing holistic support to 300,000 people in Southern Madagascar. Dan manages teams working on emergency food distribution, improving water access, and restoring degraded land. Dan works in communities experiencing first-hand the massive impact of climate change on smallholder farmers in Africa. Dan has over 20 years of experience in humanitarian relief and development.
Dan has spent most of his professional career in Africa, working in Niger, Burkina Faso, Nambia, Comoros, and Madagascar. Dan joined CRS as a mid-career professional. Previously, he had a career in the Federal Government as Presidential Management Fellow with the African Development Foundation. He also held several positions with the Peace Corps, culminating as the first American hire assigned to Comoros in 20 years.
