NDORO Releck, age 12, helps his mother, WALIKETE Grace (not pictured), to collect their rations of rice at the Bozoum Central - Socade food distribution site in the Central African Republic. They are participants in the Mou Maboko program, which helps provide dignified housing, food and non-food items to vulnerable families displaced by conflict. Releck says: “This food is good, it tastes good when my mom prepares it. I am very happy to eat breakfast tomorrow before school, because many days I usually don’t eat until dinner because my mom has no food to cook. So I am very happy today.” During a monthly, two-day distribution, more than 550 families living near this site receive rations of rice, manioc, peanuts, oil and salt, along with 10,000CFA (approx. USD$16) cash to buy condiments and meat. Due to insecurity, many are unable to farm - their main source of food - and these rations help supplement the lost crops. Without them, many families resort to negative coping mechanisms, such as eating one meal a day. - Launched in June 2022, the Mou Maboko: Emergency Food and Shelter Support to Vulnerable Households in Ouham-Pendé Prefecture project is addressing critical food security and shelter needs to improve living conditions and reduce suffering for individuals and communities affected by conflict in the sub-prefectures of Bossemptélé and Bozoum in northwestern Central African Republic. Funded by USAID’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and implemented by CRS in partnership with All for Peace and Dignity (APADE), this 12-month project provides vulnerable households with dignified shelter and emergency food support. Over 2,000 conflict-affected households (13,085 individuals), including 8,393 internally-displaced persons, are participating in this project.
