CRS Welcomes U.S. Government’s Life-Affirming Move

Catholic Relief Services (CRS) affirms the life-saving impact of the Presidential Memorandum reinstating the Mexico City policy, denying certain federal funding to foreign non-governmental organizations that provide abortion, counseling or referrals, and other related activities.

As a Catholic pro-life organization dedicated to preserving the sacredness and dignity of human life from conception to natural death, we are pleased that the new Administration has taken this step designed to reduce support for abortions overseas.

The Presidential Memorandum directs the Secretary of State to develop a plan to extend the requirements of the policy to global health assistance furnished by all departments or agencies. We urge that this planning process carefully assess and prevent any unintended consequences to or interruption in the provision of other life-saving health assistance.
