The Pacific Sub-Region
CRS' main partner in the vast Pacific Islands region is Caritas Oceania, whose work helps 30 million people living in a 7,500-mile stretch of islands including Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Guam and Samoa. People living here regularly combat the effects of natural disasters, as well the effects of HIV and AIDS discrimination.
Sharing similar goals of improved program quality, staff development and advocacy, CRS and Caritas Oceania are working on a 5-year plan to aid this region, with CRS providing an annual grant to fund the efforts. CRS and Caritas Oceania programming focuses on incorporating peacebuilding activities into all relief and development services as a means of providing both immediate and long-term solutions to this region's needs.
