Rwanda
Catholic Relief Services' goal in Rwanda is to contribute to a peaceful and productive society through development programs and Peacebuilding activities. The 1994 genocide and war left a large number of traumatized and vulnerable people and a lingering mistrust among the population.
CRS helps the most needy increase their food security and work towards self-sufficiency, and engages in activities aimed at promoting reconciliation. CRS, in partnership with the Episcopal Commission for Justice and Peace, has just launched a program to prepare the population for the launching of Gacaca, a traditional justice system being initiated to address the need for trials for over 100,000 prisoners being held for crimes committed during the genocide.
