CRS History in Peru
CRS has worked in Peru since 1954, when a system for the shipment and distribution of powdered milk was created at the request of the Papal Nuncio.
In the early years, CRS/Peru worked primarily in response to natural disasters in partnership with Caritas Peru and the Peruvian government. In the 1960s and 70s, the agency began supporting community-oriented projects, such as credit unions, health education, training and agricultural production, as well as continuing to provide assistance in emergency situations. The current program is based in Lima with 19 national and three international staff.
