Business and Micro-Enterprise Development
Sustainability is not only a hallmark of good development work, but also of good peacebuilding. For example, in addition to its cooperatives work in Bosnia-Herzegovina, CRS supports multi-ethnic village banking projects to develop new business opportunities that will help rebuild the war-torn country, which continues to suffer from high unemployment.
Inter-communal development programs in Mindanao, Philippines, such as the Myramville village bakery project, provide opportunities for interfaith interaction as well as income generation. Business development programming in Peru includes a focus on incorporating conflict resolution into business practices and management styles. In Macedonia, many of the community banks that CRS works with have a mix of Roma, Albanian and Macedonian members.
