SOLIDARITY WITH AFRICA - RESOURCES FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS
SCHOOL-WIDE PROGRAM
September: The Need for Community
As the school year begins, we are reminded of our call to community. This month will challenge students to include our African family in our circle of relationships.
October: The Need for Food
This season of harvest in the United States makes us mindful of the inequitable distribution of food resources around the world and the conditions that impact farmers in Africa.
November: The Need for Shelter
As weather in the northern hemisphere turns colder, we turn to the comforts of our homes and schools for warmth and protection. At this time, we also remember our African brothers and sisters who seek shelter and refuge throughout the entire year.
December: The Need for Compassion
HIV/AIDS, a disease of our world, greatly impacts the people of Sub-Saharan Africa. This month, special attention to the HIV/AIDS epidemic gives students the opportunity to learn more and act to help our world broken by HIV/AIDS.
January: The Need for Peace
While we continue to pray for peace this month, we also challenge students to learn more about conflict in Africa and understand the devastation of war, but the hope and promise of peace
February: The Need for Education
Access to education is critical for building strong communities in Africa for the future. While many Africans still don't have access to education, there are glimmers of hope and happiness in activities and programs that open the doors to learning and understanding.
March: The Need for Participation and Inclusion
People have a right and a duty to participate in society. This month focuses on how Africans are building a stronger voice to participate in their communities and hopefully, our world.
April: The Need for Care for Creation
With the spirit of resurrection and gratitude for the gift of life, this month, we examine our responsibility to care for all of God's creation and learn of the natural resources that give hope and life in Africa.
May: The Need to Work
While work gives us the opportunity to provide for loved ones, in many areas of the world, including Africa, the work of people is exploited so that others may profit excessively. This month, lift up in prayer and learning, those who work with their hands and hearts in Africa and all over the world.
