CRS Work in Indonesia
CRS' goal is to help all people reach their full potential to live in equality and peace. CRS/Indonesia's team is committed to the fight against food insecurity in Indonesia. The following is a brief summary of the program areas in which CRS responds to the needs of Indonesian people.
Agriculture
This program is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of farmers and staff of local institutions for more sustainable and positive impacts through increased production.
Health
CRS is working with communitites to help identify their heath needs, and plan and implement interventions that address these needs, with specific emphasis on mother and child health and nutrition.
Peacebuilding
The peace building programs seek to address the root causes of social injustice and promote community access to decision-making institutions. Peacebuilding is a cross-cutting strategy that is being actively integrated into other programming sectors (i.e. agriculture, microfinance, etc.). However, as a core program sector, it is used to strengthen staff and partner capacity in conflict prevention and resolution, promote human rights, and build civil society.
Microfinance
In partnership with a local microfinance institution PT Ukabima, CRS microfinance programs are geared towards increased and sustained access to financial services for poor and vulnerable communities.
Emergency
To help reduce the negative impacts of natural and man-made disasters on livelihoods, CRS focuses on developing the capacities of communities to prepare for and respond to crises and emergencies.
In Aceh
Working with a planned budget of $128 million through fiscal year 2009, CRS is helping to aid the reconstruction of homes, schools, businesses, churches, hospitals and markets. Most importantly, we are dedicated to the rebuilding of hundreds of thousands of lives. To date, CRS has reached nearly one-quarter of a million survivors with food, shelter, livelihood, education, medical care and life essentials for beginning anew.
CRS is taking a holistic approach to its recovery and development efforts. We are rebuilding entire communities, not just homes -from city infrastructure to counseling and maternal health services, to employment and educational opportunities. Through this multi-sectoral approach, CRS helps to build community resilience by targeting the most vulnerable members of the population.
