CRS Work in Bangladesh
CRS is advancing education in Bangladesh by improving the skills of teachers, strengthening relationships with the community and increasing children's access to education through innovative education models.
Emphasis is placed on:
- Developing teaching methods and materials for students and teachers
- Developing programs to reach out to more schools
- Supporting institutional capacity development
- Using outreach education programs to improve access to education
CRS is supporting the following projects in the education sector:
Formation of Youth and Teachers
This project provides opportunities for holistic education through teacher development, collaborations between educational institutions, institutional capacity development and support to socially disadvantaged children. An innovative component of the project is developing links between schools and communities to support the educational needs of out of school children in a cost effective manner. This component has been quite successful and the project has been able to return a large number of children to school.
Formal Education Program
This project provides support to more than 100 primary schools catering to the educational needs of tribals in one of the least developed districts of Bangladesh. The project also provides a platform for schools to share professional expertise and strengths with each other.
Emergency Response
Bangladesh is one of the most disaster prone countries in the world and is particularly vulnerable to floods. Almost every year the country experiences some type of flooding. The most recent flood in Bangladesh affected around 1.5 million people. Through its partner network, CRS provided immediate relief to the most affected victims.
