CRS Work in Aremenia
The largest CRS programs in the Caucasus are humanitarian assistance and education programs. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funds projects in education, shelter reconstruction, and income generation in vulnerable regions of Armenia.
Recognizing that ongoing injustice and conflict in the region is largely dependent on the quality of governance and the ability of citizens to meet their needs, CRS has expanded its programming to include peacebuilding, advocacy, and civil society development. In 2001, CRS opened an outreach office in Azerbaijan to encourage local grass-roots agencies to engage their constituencies in the political process. At the same time, CRS started the Partnership Support Unit, which is comprised of three key staff members focused on strengthening local agencies that share our mission.
