Mark Palmer

Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Mark’s role

Mark Palmer is the executive vice president, chief financial officer for Catholic Relief Services, and oversees the Finance, Accounting, Purchasing, Treasury and Internal Audit departments of CRS. He also leads the Investments, Enterprise Risk and Impact Investing areas.

Since 1998, Mark has led the development and implementation of processes, policies and systems to strengthen the business functions in finance, accounting, audit, financial planning and procurement. He is responsible for coordinating all agency resource planning and allocation processes to support CRS’ strategic objectives. Mark’s teams also provide capacity-building support to partner agencies, and ensure the highest level of compliance with the financial and administrative requirements of a diverse set of donors.

Mark is the executive staff lead to the CRS Board’s Budget and Finance Committee, Audit and Risk Management Committee, Investment Committee, and is co-chair of the Impact Investing Committee. 

Previous experience

Prior to joining CRS, Mark served as the chief financial officer at The Woodbourne Group, a children's health care and education services agency. Mark was also the chief financial officer for Erickson Living, a developer and manager of continuing care retirement communities. He spent 12 years as a financial officer for Marriott International, Inc., including roles as CFO of several operating divisions of the company. Mark started his career in the audit branch of PriceWaterhouseCoopers.


Mark received a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the College of William and Mary, and a master’s degree in finance and applied economics from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mark has a CPA from Virginia.
