2016 Egan Journalism Fellowship
The deadline for applications is April 22, 2016.
Apply now for Catholic Relief Services' coveted 2016 Egan Journalism Fellowship. All journalists working in Catholic media are encouraged to apply for an international reporting trip to Honduras and Guatemala, one of 100 countries where CRS works.
CRS and our partners in Honduras and Guatemala are addressing some of the root causes that prompt people to leave their homes and migrate in search for safety and a better future.
Egan fellows will travel to Central America for 7 – 10 days to report on some of the push factors, like gang violence, the lack of economic opportunities and climate change, that have caused thousands of families, and even unaccompanied children, to migrate to other countries, including the United States.
CRS will announce the recipients of the fellowship at the annual Catholic Media Conference, held June 1-3 in St. Louis, Missouri.
"The trip's impact is still unfolding for me and probably will continue to do so for quite some time. I've come home more committed to showing my fellow Americans what war really means for those under its bombs. And that, I think, is a Catholic mission."
Claire Schaeffer-Duffy, freelance journalist (reporting on the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon and Jordan, 2014)
