2016 Egan Journalism Fellowship
The application is now closed.
Catholic Relief Services' coveted 2016 Egan Journalism Fellowship application closed on Friday, April 22, 2016. A panel of judges is reviewing the 2016 applications. CRS will then announce the recipients of the fellowship at the annual Catholic Media Conference, held June 13, 2016, in St. Louis, Missouri. Follow the announcement using twitter hashtag #CRSEgan.
The 2016 prestigious fellowship will award an international reporting trip to Honduras and Guatemala, one of 100 countries where CRS works. Egan fellows will travel to Central America for 7 – 10 days to report on the push factors – like gang violence, the lack of economic opportunities and climate change – that have caused thousands of families, and even unaccompanied children, to migrate to other countries, including the United States.
"The trip's impact is still unfolding for me and probably will continue to do so for quite some time. I've come home more committed to showing my fellow Americans what war really means for those under its bombs. And that, I think, is a Catholic mission." — Claire Schaeffer-Duffy, freelance journalist (reporting on the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon and Jordan, 2014)
